steaming do’s & dont’s
Steaming Contraindications :
There are different protocols and ultimately it is best to have them tailored to every woman's needs and circumstances.
There are few situations when steaming is considered a hard contraindication- let us begin with those, as there are fewer of them:
When menstruating – red/pink/orange menses are present.
When bleeding/spotting fresh blood (for example between the periods, after menopause).
When pregnant – Steaming can be introduced after 38w of pregnancy as a supportive tool for labor, under the supervision of a practitioner.
When trying to conceive – steaming during the fertile days and after ovulation.
When there is an active infection characterized with the sensation of burning itch.
When there is a genital piercing – jewellery must be removed first.
Immediately post surgery.
Also, be aware that steaming may reverse the effects of certain procedures/interventions – such as Tubal Coagulation, Essure, Nexplanon (patch or implanted birth control), Uterine Ablation, Uterine Fibroid Embolization.
Steaming set up when having an IUD needs to be adjusted.
When can steaming be useful :

Labour preparation (38w+) and steaming during labour
